About the Tour

Founded in 2005 by Amgen, Breakaway from Cancer® is a national initiative to increase awareness of the important resources available to people affected by cancer from prevention to survivorship. The initiative supports the valuable support, education and advocacy resources offered by Prevent Cancer Foundation, Cancer Support Community, Patient Advocate Foundation and National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship..
 This years 2011 Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling event in America, will be starting at Northern California's own South Lake Tahoe, one of the US' most beautiful lakes and home to some of the most goreous rad cycling in the world.  Lake Tahoe’s first-ever involvement in the race will feature more than a lap and a half around the Lake beginning at the Calif./Nev. border in South Lake Tahoe, May 15.
The race will wind through 800 miles, traveling between 15 host cities over the course of eight days from May 15-22, 2011, beginning in South Lake Tahoe, home of “America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride.” The race will travel through some of the state’s most scenic landmarks, with the overall finish in title-sponsor Amgen’s hometown community of Thousand Oaks.

Tahoe’s 10-Day Countdown of events leading up to the start of the Amgen Tour of California will launch May 5, offering participation rides, expos, bike demos, bike to work week, community and charity events, headliner entertainment, Gala Reception and more.



So Who Are We

We Are a group of locals in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area fuled by assion to make it so that Lake Tahoe is a regular stop on the amgen tour for this year and years to come. Our Small Group Has put in hundreds of man hours with designing, organizing, meetings, and general promoting of this event because we love cycling. On top of this we love that it shows just how much bike culture is rooted in our little portion of the Us.
